About the workshop:

The term ‘comfort zone’ is defined as “a behavioral state where a person operates in an anxiety-neutral position” and “ where our uncertainty, scarcity and vulnerability are minimized – where we believe we’ll have access to enough love, food, talent, time and admiration”. Stepping out of our comfort zone enhances the levels of concentration and focus, but may raise anxiety and provoke stress.
Role training is the process of group members experiencing a situation they expect to encounter. Role training is preparation for an upcoming activity; improving the protagonist’s ability to react to and handle challenges; practicing new skills and responses. Roles connect human needs, emotions, relationships, beliefs, activities, etc. Roles can be modified, expanded or reduced, depending on the circumstances. Therefore, role training is a particularly important psychodrama procedure and may be used to prepare the protagonist and the group for different upcoming roles. Role training can be the major procedure of the session if this is what the protagonist needs; or can be just one part of the psychodrama session, where the protagonist examines past, present and future in order to solve the existing issue.
Role training differs from other psychodramatic procedures by preparing for future events, instead of examining situations from the past and the present. Role training often is used in more task-oriented ways; it helps to picture new possibilities; building up the capacity for adjustment. Other procedures are most often recreating and investigating issues in people’s lives, the dynamics of relationships, and reintegrating previously experienced feelings and attitudes. Role training can be accomplished by applying the same techniques as in other procedures - mirroring, doubling, soliloquy, and role reversal. As in the process of examining the past and the present, role training is beneficial for the protagonist, as well as for the audience (the group members).
