COURSE OVERVIEW

Tanja L Lee, Ph.D., and Daniela Tahirova created a certification program that infuses therapeutic artistic modalities as a method to develop social-emotional competency. The social-emotional competence certification is designed to equip participants to help children and adolescents develop healthy identities, manage emotions, and achieve personal and collective goals. Educators, community arts professionals, mental health practitioners, and anyone who wants to create social-emotional activities to foster supportive classroom environments and programs will benefit from this training. Participants will gain knowledge about the CASEL Social-Emotional Competencies (SEC), participate in cooperative learning strategies that increase engagement in learning, and develop familiarity using tools and resources to implement SEL activities in a face-to-face and virtual setting. The social-emotional competence training highlights using metaphors and a combination of verbal and nonverbal communication through action methods and art modalities to foster children and adolescents’ well-being, connectedness, and success. Trainees will come away with tools for professional use in clinical, community, and educational settings. The use of therapeutic artistic modalities helps improve communication, self-reflection and allows the child to develop their mental potentials and resources.
