Workshop description:
Divorce can be mentally, physically, and financially demanding. A person going through divorce may feel guilt, fear, anxiety, depression and grief. A divorce also impacts the whole family system. Therapists may naturally side with one partner over the other or generally feel uncomfortable engaging at all. With that in mind, it might be helpful to be very mindful about who you speak with and what you mention. Couples therapy is an often-misunderstood space when it comes to divorce issues. Families going through divorce have several tasks in the separation process. These are going through a grieving process, communicating differently, reorganizing, and making new goals for co-parenting. Going successfully through these tasks impacts positively all family members. Our role as therapists is to help these families understand better the process of divorce and go successfully through these separation and divorce tasks. This is why in this workshop we will:
Explain about types of divorces and the process of divorce Discuss parents and children’s experiences with the divorce process Address some Bowen Family Systems and Psychodrama strategies for working with these families.

Bowen family systems theory describes the natural emotional processes which shape families and other social groups. Dr. Murray Bowen saw the family as part of the big picture, and developed a theory of the family as a living, natural system.  He sought consistency with the rest of the life sciences.

In this workshop we will discuss:
1. Explain about types of divorces and the process of divorce
2. Discuss parents and children’s experiences with the divorce process
3. Address some Bowen Family Systems and Psychodrama strategies for working with these families
