Our work will draw on the anti-oppression framework presented in the book Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment by Leticia Nieto et al.

Facilitators

Miriam Zachariah, MA, TEP
  • Background: Retired Educator, Granddaughter of Dr. J.L. Moreno, Daughter of Regina Moreno.
  • Experience:
    • Public school educator for 30 years; retired elementary school principal.
    • Certified trainer in psychodrama, sociometry, and group psychotherapy.
    • Recognized trainer in restorative practices and Peacemaking Circles.
  • Focus Areas:
    • Community development in workplaces.
    • Conflict intervention.
    • Dialogue support across differences.
  • Accomplishments:
    • Trained hundreds of educators to use restorative practices for creating safe and supportive learning communities in classrooms and schools.



Dr. Leticia Nieto, PsyD, LMFT, TEP
  • Background: Born in Puebla, Mexico; immigrated to the US in 1978.
  • Experience:
    • Social justice advocate working with people experiencing incarceration, addiction, and displacement.
    • Specialist in anti-racism, economic, immigrant, and disability justice.
    • Degrees in theatre, human development, and clinical psychology.
  • Professional Focus:
    • Developed an intersectional model to train counselors and leaders in anti-oppression theory and reflective practice.
    • Areas of expertise include gender justice, indigenous self-determination, children and elder rights, and queer justice.
    • Primarily uses action methods (psychodrama and expressive arts) to support anti-oppression trainers and leaders.
  • Teaching: Worked for 33 years as a professor training Masters and Doctoral students.
  • Current Work: Maintains a counseling practice and collaborates with anti-oppression trainers and leaders.
