A 20-hour interactive training for experienced practitioners to develop their skills in conducting Playback Theatre.

This advanced course explores facilitation, directing, and adaptation techniques, equipping participants to lead Playback Theatre effectively in diverse spaces.

Includes live group sessions and a practicum between sessions for hands-on learning and integration.


The Conductor role (equivalent to the Director in Psychodrama) is a key position in the Playback Theatre method. This person serves as the liaison between the actors and the audience, responsible for soliciting and shaping stories shared by audience members while also guiding the community ritual.In this course, students will have the opportunity to learn and practice this delicate and complex role. The training will focus on:

• The warm-up phase and the use of sociometry
• Conducting primary Playback Theatre forms (short and long)
• Eliciting stories and interviewing the teller
• Managing challenging tellers
• Recognizing and responding to emerging connections between stories

This course will develop skills essential for both in-person and online Conducting.

Prerequisite: Core Training, or at least one year in a Playback Theatre company or regular practice.
