Aging Gracefully: A 12 Steps Inquiry
An International Commitment-Based Cohort for Exploring the Fifth Quarter of Life

Directed by
Peter Pitzele, PhD and Susan Pitzele

We are living longer than any generation before us. Many of us now find ourselves navigating a "fifth quarter" of life for which there are few maps, role models, stories, or shared traditions. While longer life offers new possibilities, it also invites questions about purpose, identity, loss, legacy, relationships, freedom, spirituality, and mortality.

Aging Gracefully: A 12 Steps Inquiry is a 13-session international online cohort designed for individuals who wish to explore these questions in the company of others. Guided by the structure and wisdom of the Twelve Steps, participants will engage in a collaborative journey of reflection, discovery, and personal growth.

This is not a training program and not a traditional support group. Rather, it is an experiential inquiry in which understanding emerges through dialogue, storytelling, guided reflection, action methods, role exploration, biblio-sociodrama, writing, and small-group interaction. The emphasis is on curiosity rather than answers, exploration rather than expertise, and community rather than instruction.

Participants are invited to commit to the full series, allowing the group to develop the trust, continuity, and depth that support meaningful exploration. Together, we will examine the opportunities and challenges of aging while drawing upon our individual experiences and the collective wisdom of the cohort.

Whether you are approaching retirement, adapting to life transitions, questioning what comes next, or simply seeking a deeper conversation about aging and living well, this series offers a thoughtful and supportive space for inquiry, connection, and growth.
