Workshop Description:
In an increasingly interconnected world, psychodrama directors are leading groups composed of participants from diverse cultural backgrounds and geographic regions — often in virtual or hybrid spaces mediated by technology. In these settings, it is common for some participants to speak the working language of the session as a second or third language, or to rely on translation tools to engage with the group. This evolving group environment calls for new awareness, techniques, and skills on the part of the director — particularly in how they communicate clearly and inclusively, and how they facilitate respectful and meaningful communication among participants from different cultures and language backgrounds. This experiential workshop, facilitated by Erica Hollander, explores the growing role of the psychodrama (and other action methods) director in multicultural online and hybrid settings. Through dialogue and action-based exploration, participants will examine how language, culture, tone, pacing, and shared understanding influence group cohesion, trust, and spontaneity.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify communication and cultural dynamics that influence group cohesion, safety, and spontaneity in international groups meeting in virtual or hybrid spaces.
- Develop practical strategies for directing with clarity and cultural sensitivity, while facilitating respectful interaction among group members with diverse linguistic backgrounds.
