Crisis related to Sexuality
In this workshop we will discuss some crises related to sexuality. Much of the couples’ research tends to be gender specific and based on heteronormatic, cisgendered, middle-class, white couples. In addition, therapists tend to jump to a treatment diagnosis too soon without doing thorough assessment. As a result, LGBTQ couples can experience discrimination from society and therapists or even treatment trauma. In this workshop we will discuss how to have psychological flexibility, engage in safe conversations with our diverse clients, assess for safety, and utilize supportive therapy practices.
Learning Objectives:
